Neurons, Networks, & Necessary

“Neurons that fire together, wire together.”
- Donald Hebb
Did you know that the human brain contains almost 90 billion neurons? And each of those neurons are connected to each other via billions more synapses and dendrites. Taken as a whole, they make up your neural network, which uses electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information both between different areas of the brain and between the brain and the rest of the nervous system. Everything we think and feel and do would be impossible without the work of neurons and their support cells. (Thank you National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for writing that summary for me)
The intricate design and function of the human brain is a perfect analogy for our personal networks. Both are necessary, both are interdependent, and both help us operate at a high level. When functioning optimally, our brains, neurons and synapses are firing to support our physical and mental wellbeing. Similarly, when your personal & professional network is functioning optimally, your relationships are “firing” to support your professional wellbeing. In both cases, you are responsible for making sure the network is healthy and well cared for.
I invite you to listen to Episode 3 of Consultant Conversations, where Mike Mueller, Keith Soriano, Todd Smith, and I discuss how to best leverage your professional networks when trying to “Land the Job”. You can find it on your favorite podcast platforms:
